Synopsis[]

Now that Amy is finally back from New York, she and Ricky have the opportunity to smooth things over, at long last. Amy is relatively suspicious that Ricky was up to something these past few days, which isn't helped by his rather unconvincing answers to Amy's probing questions. Amy insinuates that Ricky had been hooking up with girls once he realised that it wasn't long until Amy got back from New York so Ricky reminds her that he can have sex with whoever he wants because he's not that interested in having sex with Amy. Reluctant to talk things out and wanting to go to bed, Ricky gets annoyed and insists that he's not ready for an exclusive, monogamous relationship to which Amy suggests going on dates instead, however Ricky's not so sure of the idea.

Next door, Adrian poses a question to Ben about the possibility of having sex anytime soon, after she's been given the all-clear by her doctors of course, but a cautious Ben advises her not to, after all, he does want to make sure the pregnancy goes smoothly, which entails being responsible and acting like a grown-up. Adrian then forewarns Ben that when Amy gets back, Amy will probably want to get back together with Ben after realising that she doesn't want to be with Ricky. Ben assures her that whatever goes on between Ricky and Amy has no affect on him and Adrian and then leaves, tired and irritated.

Meanwhile, over at Ben's house, Alice and Henry are having a sleepover when they jump out from under the covers to scare an unsuspecting Ben. Still feeling quite peeved, Ben admits to giving Adrian Betty's ring and acknowledges that it was a naïve mistake. Henry and Alice both agree that the fact that Ben gave the ring to Adrian and she accepted it signifies that they are beginning to develop feelings for each other. Leo walks in and advises Ben to go back to Adrian's house to keep her company, so Ben heads back.

Elsewhere, Madison is complaining about being on restriction and not being able to have fun but Lauren advises her to pull through and just stick to the rules in the hope that their parents will lessen their sentence. Jason interrupts them to let them know that Jesse and Jack were both at party and then takes the opportunity to wind them up about being grounded.

While Jack is out, Grace chooses to look after Tom in the guest house, despite him insisting that he doesn't need any company. Thinking that he has already started dating someone else now that he isn't allowed to see Madison, Grace tries to find out more about what Jack is up to, so Tom lets her know that he's at party. In fact, Jack is grabbing a bite at the Dairy Shack with Jesse as he explains his feelings about not wanting Grace to be with any other guy except him but at the same time feels that he could be with Madison for the rest of his life. Jesse tries his best to make Jack see some sense as Jack admits that he would get back together with Grace in a heartbeat if she wanted him back. Little do they both know, Grant is sitting right behind them with his mother, eavesdropping on their conversation. Grace calls Grant and after overhearing Grant loudly mention to Grace that he was listening in on him and Jesse, Jack confronts him and his mother and then embarrassingly leaves. Grant then calls Grace back and warns her that Jack is on the prowl so Grace respects his Grant's wishes and leaves the guest house before Jack gets home. Grace then invites Grant spend the night together, which her mother unexpectedly allows, leading to suspicions from Grace that Kathleen is up to something.

Ricky and Amy try to salvage some sleep but not the feeling of not knowing who Ricky was with last keeps Amy awake. Amy's persistence pays off as Ricky recalls his encounter with Haylie but adds that he didn't go through with it and that there were no other instances. Amy tries to get some more information about said encounter but Ricky is fed up of being asked all these questions. While eavesdropping in on Ricky and Amy's late-night conversation, Ashley overhears Ricky say that he would never have sex with her, so she takes off, full of jealousy.

In the other room, Anne finds out from George that Amy got home early so she goes to check on her but after finding her in bed, leaves to go back to her room and in doing so, catches Ricky in the hallway on his way to the nursery to check on John. Anne figures out that he and Amy were arguing because she find out that he slept with another girl which is why she came home a week early and so bluntly tells Ricky that he and Amy should face the facts that they really shouldn't be together. In response to this, Ricky reminds her that she's the one about to remarry her ex-husband which causes Anne to really re-evaluate what she really wants in life.

Despite migrating to the couch, Ricky can't escape Amy's inquisition. Amy desperately asks who it was that he turned down so Ricky tries to put her mind at ease by revealing that it was someone that she doesn't know. Amy, not knowing what to believe, enquires if it was Adrian but this pushes Ricky over the edge. An incensed Ricky accuses her of looking down on Adrian and also leading Ricky on just because she thinks that Ben and Adrian won't last. Amy denies this and reveals her wish for her and Ricky to get to know each other better across the course of the summer in order to see if they are right for each other.

The following morning, Adrian wakes Ben up and tells him he's got to go. Adrian thanks him for coming back and staying over and also admits that it was probably a good thing that Amy is in New York and not speaking to Ben because it has allowed them to really bond over the pregnancy. Next door, Ricky takes John with him up to see Amy and decides to finally ask Amy out on a date, which Amy gleefully accepts. With Adrian and Ben's and Ricky and Amy's respective relationships starting to blossom, will all 4 have a happily ever after or will it all tour sour between the couples, after all, Amy and Ben still have to have that important talk now that she's back?

Trivia[]

  • When Grace gets up and leaves the guest house, a half asleep Tom says, "Goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are" which was a line that Jimmy Durante used to say when signing off his radio shows as a tribute to his late first wife.
  • As Amy probes for more answers from Ricky, Ricky makes reference to the 1972 film The Godfather by repeating the line, "Alright, this one time I'll let you ask me about my affairs" to Amy as well as mentioning that he feels 'like Michael Corleone when his wife Kay cornered him'.
  • Ricky tells Amy that he's against dating even if it eventually leads to having sex with her. This could be because in season 1, Ricky starts to date a virginal Grace after she and Jack break up in an attempt to have sex with her but soon decides to abandon his pursuit by breaking up her in That's Enough of That.

Goofs[]

  • When Amy and Ricky are in the living room discussing their future, Amy starts stroking Ricky's neck while she's talking but her arms are down by her side when the camera cuts to her face mid-sentence.
